A While ago, Microsoft Published a new version of the Edge browser.
The main draw to the new Edge was that it had been using a Chromium base, which -- as its Name suggests -- shares roots using Google's Chrome browser.
At the time, it was uncertain whether Edge would win over the masses. Luckily, Microsoft made some excellent choices with Edge, for example, letting the installation of Google Chrome extensions. This meant that individuals could make the jump without sacrificing their favorite extensions.

All this effort appears to have finally paid off, as Edge became the 2nd most-used web browser supporting Chrome.

You can watch for yourself at Internet Marketshare, A helpful tool for analyzing browser popularity. At the time of writing, the browser usage for a month was Chrome in 67.95 percentage, Edge at 7.49 percentage, and then Firefox at 7.36 percent. That is pretty big, as Firefox has held the No. 2 spot for a very long time; watching it fall into a newcomer in the space of a month is very jarring!

Of course, it is not that much of a lead -- it's only 0.13 %, after all -- but the fact that Edge has managed to dethrone Firefox at all is striking. This goes double once you realize that the brand new Chromium Edge came out in January 2020, which means people have resorted to the new browser by drive.

Why Did Edge Overtake Firefox?

Why did the all-time 2nd-place holder abruptly fall into Edge? The easy answer is that Edge is the newest kid on the block, and its use stats are because of people checking it out. Additionally, it is valid to predict people will move away from Edge when they grow tired of it.

But, there are indications that people actually prefer Edge into Firefox. For starters, VentureBeat pitted Edge, Firefox, Chrome, and Brave against each other in eight standard tests. Edge took the trophy in four of these evaluations, while Firefox got two and Chrome only one.

People are also eating humble pie after years of IE and old-Edge mockery. You will find Reddit threads. Some are sticking to their guns but are giving props to the new browser and enjoying how far Edge has arrived.

As such, it's difficult to tell if Edge's stats are due to individuals giving It a short term trial to determine what the fuss is about or if people are Creating a significant commitment to utilizing it. We are going to have to wait through the Coming weeks to see where Edge's figures proceed and if it could hold its Name as the No. 2 browser online.
