Apple has launched a new version of its smaller and more economical iPhone, SE.

The brand new phone looks to be an iPhone 8, including the mostly-abandoned home button in the bottom. But its internals is more in line with the latest iPhone 11, and it features Apple's latest chip and an updated camera.

It features the A13 Bionic chip from its top of the line iPhone 11 and 11 Pro. Even though it features just one lens, unlike the higher-end models, it still gets the software characteristics of these phones like the Portrait style. So Apple says that the images should be even better than the iPhone XR, which remains available at a higher price.

The brand new phone begins at $399 in the US, or 419 in the UK, the same price as the existing iPhone SE. That makes it much more affordable than Apple's other, newer models, which begin at #999.

It is also now the smallest of Apple's iPhones, using a 4.7-inch screen. But it is larger than the older iPhone SE it simplifies, which had only a 4-inch screen.

The phone will be available in Apple Stores, but the majority them are still closed. Apple will also offer the telephone online with a no-contact shipping alternative.

The iPhone SE is an upgraded variant of the present model, which was initially released in 2016. That phone was built on the very same principles -- packaging newer components into a body -- and proved a runaway success, with demand appearing to surprise Apple.

That telephone has gone with an update since then. Today Apple has brought it back, with the specific same title, upgrading the body so that it is precisely the same as the iPhone 8 and replacing that old handset in its line-up.

In addition to keeping the older home button design, the SE uses the TouchID fingerprint detector. The rest of Apple's line-up -- for example its iPad Guru -- has now switched over to the FaceID facial recognition system.

"The very first iPhone SE was a hit with many clients who loved its unique blend of small size, high-end performance and economical price; the new second-generation iPhone SE builds on this fantastic thought and improves on it in every way -- including our best-ever single-camera platform for great photos and videos -- while still being very cheap," Apple advertising head Phil Schiller said in a statement.

"The new iPhone comes with the industry-leading performance of A13 Bionic that enables great battery life, chooses gorgeous Portrait style and Smart HDR photographs shoots amazing movies with stereo audio, is great for games and super-fast net surfing, and is built with the same industry-leading security attributes our clients expect. We can't wait to get iPhone SE into customers' hands."
